How SOLIDWORKS is saving lives in the UK

Supacat, a Devon-based engineering and design firm that builds emergency‑response and defence vehicles for clients such as the RNLI and the UK Ministry of Defence, faced the challenge of designing robust, highly complex systems that must operate reliably in extreme land, sea and hazardous oil‑field environments. To meet these demands Supacat uses SolidWorks 3D CAD, modelling and simulation tools to turn sketch concepts into manufacturable, tested designs.

Using SolidWorks modelling and simulation, Supacat delivered right‑first‑time designs such as the lifeboat Launch & Recovery System (L&RS), the SUV 600 fire‑response vehicle, and an ATEX Zone‑2 passenger transit vehicle (PTV). The SolidWorks-driven design enabled a 360° cradle and five‑minute bow‑first relaunch for the L&RS, a projected 50‑year zinc‑coated service life, and an RNLI estimate that each L&RS will help save about 56,000 lives—demonstrating clear measurable impact on safety and operational readiness.
