How SOLIDWORKS Is Helping Great British Sports Cars Onto The Podium

Great British Sports Cars, a UK kit‑car builder famed for the Zero (a modern take on the Lotus Seven), faced the challenge of updating a classic design to increase interior space, widen the chassis and improve weight distribution without losing character. To move away from time‑consuming physical trial‑and‑error, GBS adopted SolidWorks, using SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD to design and validate the entire vehicle down to individual nuts and bolts.

Using SolidWorks, the team simulated materials and parts to iterate quickly, replicate common components and reduce material waste, saving time and money in development. The CAD-led approach produced a tighter chassis, better weight distribution and easy customer-specific variations, and has become central to GBS’s long‑term plan — with the company now planning to add SOLIDWORKS Composer to improve technical communication.
