Growing Air Intake Filter Housing Consultancy With Solidworks Solutions

Optar Technologies is a U.K.–based engineering consultancy that designs and manufactures air intake filter housings for turbines, compressors and other rotating machinery. Facing delays, extra costs and reliance on outside partners for structural and fluid-flow validation — as well as the need for an automated document-management system to support ISO 9001 renewal — Optar turned to SolidWorks solutions to close capability gaps.

SolidWorks implemented a combined solution of SOLIDWORKS Premium design plus SOLIDWORKS Simulation (FEA), SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation (CFD) and SOLIDWORKS Enterprise PDM, enabling Optar to bring simulation and PDM in‑house. The move cut validation time and costs, saved a customer up to four weeks and £5–10K on one project, improved filtration performance in a 720 MW project (0.1‑micron efficiency from 15% to 90%), supported ISO 9001 renewal, and helped grow Optar’s engineering services business.
