Case Study: Field Ready achieves rapid disaster-relief power and communications recovery with SolidWorks

A SolidWorks Case Study

Preview of the Field Ready Case Study

Field Ready - Customer Case Study

Field Ready, a nonprofit humanitarian organization that deploys engineers to disaster zones within 72 hours, faced widespread power loss after Category 5 hurricanes struck St. Thomas and the U.S. Virgin Islands in September 2017. With as many as 60% of residents still without power three months later, Field Ready needed rapid, field-ready solutions — and SolidWorks provided design software and technical support to enable those on-the-ground repairs.

Using SolidWorks design tools, Field Ready collaborated with My Brother’s Workshop to redesign components that repurposed wind-tossed solar panels, 3D-printed the parts, and assembled mobile charging stations within hours. The SolidWorks-enabled solution turned salvaged panels into functioning phone-charging stations so locals could power cell phones and register with FEMA, restoring critical connectivity when conventional power remained out.
