A SolidWorks Case Study
FIBO, the Institute of Field Robotics at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, faced the urgent challenge of rapidly adapting and building service robots to support healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. To reduce infection risk and enable tele-monitoring, communication, delivery of supplies, and sanitization, FIBO turned to SolidWorks 3D design and simulation tools to accelerate development and validate robot designs virtually.
Using SolidWorks, FIBO created the FACO robotic series (including CARVER and SOFA) with faster visualization, virtual engineering analysis, and a single source of truth for 3D designs—reducing development time by more than 50%. The SolidWorks-enabled workflow minimized rework and manufacturing defects, shortened design-to-manufacture timelines, and produced prototypes that aided diagnosis, enabled video consultations, delivered supplies, and helped lower infection risk for frontline medical staff.
