A SolidWorks Case Study
MDI, a designer and manufacturer of custom promotional signage and displays, needed a more affordable, configurable PDM solution that integrated tightly with its SolidWorks 3D CAD environment. Their previous system lacked in-house administration, workflow automation, and easy access for nonengineering staff, so MDI chose SolidWorks Enterprise PDM from SolidWorks to address those gaps.
Using SolidWorks Enterprise PDM (seven CAD-integrated, five contributor, and 10 viewer licenses) and support from xLM Solutions, MDI converted more than 70,000 legacy AutoCAD and SolidWorks files with links intact and completed the weekend implementation with minimal downtime. SolidWorks enabled quick training (most sessions ~30 minutes), in-house administration and workflow automation (automatic routing and email notifications to CNC/tooling groups), expanded access to purchasing, manufacturing and graphic designers, and improved searchable management of mixed file types—delivering a more efficient, affordable PDM and measurable operational benefits.
