Expanding efficiencies in tank trailer development with SolidWorks Premium

MaXfield, Inc., a major supplier of pressurized tank trailers and custom-fabricated piping for the oil and gas industry, struggled to move from 2D AutoCAD and an unsuccessful Autodesk Inventor deployment to a reliable 3D design platform. To address complex, highly customized tank trailer designs (each with 500–750 components and representing about half the company’s business), MaXfield implemented six seats of SolidWorks Premium from SolidWorks for a more comprehensive, supported 3D CAD solution.

SolidWorks delivered an integrated solution—SolidWorks Premium with SolidWorks Routing, SolidWorks Simulation and SolidWorks Workgroup PDM plus sheet-metal, weldments, SmartMates and configurations—so MaXfield could work entirely on a single 3D platform. The SolidWorks implementation sped development cycles, reduced design errors and scrap/rework costs, improved collision/interference checking and product data management, and enabled automated BOM integration with MaXfield’s ERP.
