Developing the Community in Kansas in More Ways Than One

Kansas State University student and entrepreneur Eric, based in Wichita, Kansas, faced the challenge of rethinking a labor-intensive agricultural fencing process that could take 7–10 days and multiple workers to install a mile of fence. Using SolidWorks, he developed a patent-pending fence design aimed at improving installation efficiency while supporting his broader goal of helping the Central Kansas community.

With SolidWorks, Eric modeled the product as a multi-body sheet metal part and then converted it into an assembly to test mates and verify dynamic motion between components. This helped SolidWorks support the design of a lightweight, collapsible solution intended to reduce installation time to about one day with just two people, significantly lowering labor demands and physical strain compared with traditional fencing methods.
