Developing innovative infant and child safety products with SOLIDWORKS Industrial Designer

Inertia Engineering + Design, a fast‑tracked product design and engineering consultancy serving medical, defense, and consumer markets, faced inefficiencies when transferring concepts from industrial design into engineering—relying on pen and paper, Illustrator/Photoshop and Rhino and spending up to a half‑day planning model rebuilds and cleanups. To address these challenges the firm adopted SolidWorks solutions, notably SolidWorks Industrial Designer alongside SOLIDWORKS design, Simulation, Plastics and PDM Professional.

By adding SolidWorks Industrial Designer to its toolset, Inertia Engineering + Design eliminated the half‑day of planning per project, sped creation of freeform concepts, and improved collaboration between industrial and mechanical design. Using SolidWorks’ integrated parametrics and tools (including a creasing tool for the product handle), the team was able to address mass and volume during initial concept work and produce a lighter, more compact infant and child safety product with faster, cleaner handoffs to engineering.
