Developing an ergoskeleton to minimize lifting injuries with SOLIDWORKS® Solutions

Strong Arm Technologies, Inc. set out to develop the Strong Arm Ergoskeleton to reduce the load carried by workers’ hands, correct posture, and minimize lifting injuries across industries like warehousing and material handling. To meet this challenge the company needed integrated design, analysis, and manufacturability tools and turned to SolidWorks, using SolidWorks design, SolidWorks Simulation, and SolidWorks Plastics Professional (plus DFMXpress) to refine fit, function, and production readiness.

Using SolidWorks solutions, Strong Arm completed 22 rapid prototyping iterations that evolved into the V22 self-powered precision lifting ergoskeleton, helped secure three patents, and contributed to winning the MassChallenge $100,000 Diamond Prize. SolidWorks simulation and plastics analysis optimized load distribution and manufacturability, producing a lighter, stronger product, accelerating development, reducing tooling risk, and lowering overall development costs.
