OYSTAR North America, the Davenport, Iowa–based Packaging Technologies Group and a leading manufacturer of rapid filling and packaging machines, faced increasing complexity—some machines contain up to 8,000 components and 60% of work is customized—which slowed turnaround and limited performance. To modernize its design environment and speed development, OYSTAR standardized on SolidWorks design software and later adopted SolidWorks Simulation and SolidWorks Enterprise PDM.

By implementing SolidWorks design, Simulation, and Enterprise PDM (and using DriveWorks KBE for configuration), OYSTAR reduced design cycles by 50–60%, cut configurable design time from weeks to days, and in some cases increased production throughput tenfold—machines now fill up to 500 aerosol cans per minute or 960 yogurt cups per minute.
