Designing advanced neurosurgical instrumentation with SolidWorks software

Radionics, Inc., a global leader in neurosurgical instrumentation, needed to move beyond its legacy 2D CAD workflow, consolidate product development data with a new MRP/BOM system, and support more complex part geometry and assemblies. To solve this, Radionics standardized on SolidWorks, adopting SolidWorks 3D CAD and upgrading to SolidWorks Professional (including SolidWorks PDM and eDrawings) to improve visualization, communication, and data management.

Using SolidWorks, Radionics shortened design iteration cycles, condensed drawing time, reduced the number of prototypes required, and decreased postproduction design changes. SolidWorks Professional and SolidWorks PDM also enabled better collaboration and downstream manufacturing (sending 3D models to SURFCAM and suppliers), allowed use of blended surfaces for more complex parts, and delivered clear time‑and‑cost efficiencies across development and production.
