Creating the World’s First Automatic Flight Forming Machine with SOLIDWORKS

Robohelix, a Sydney-based mechatronic engineering company, set out to replace unsafe, manual flight-forming methods used in aerospace manufacturing. Working with SolidWorks and its simulation tools, the team needed a way to model and test a new automated process that could handle complex, high-load motion with precision while reducing setup time, cost, and operator risk.

Using SOLIDWORKS linear force analysis, 3D design capabilities, and SOLIDWORKS Simulation, Robohelix developed the world’s first automatic flight forming machine, RoboHelix, and a cloud-based blank-generation tool called HelixNinja. The solution improved production set-up rates by 45x on average, cut power consumption by up to 300x, eliminated human error, and removed safety concerns from the forming process, helping SolidWorks support Robohelix’s rapid global growth.
