Case Study: Mega Bloks achieves faster product development and cuts prototyping costs with SolidWorks

A SolidWorks Case Study

Preview of the Mega Bloks Case Study

Creating innovative new toy lines with SolidWorks Professional

Mega Bloks Inc., a leading North American toy building-block brand, was constrained by 2D CAD tools that forced long, iterative prototyping and limited designers’ ability to manage assemblies and visualize complex 3D shapes. To speed concept development and improve data control, Mega Bloks standardized on SolidWorks—initially adopting SolidWorks 3D CAD and later upgrading to the SolidWorks Professional suite (including SolidWorks PDM) with reseller SolidXperts.

Using SolidWorks Professional, Mega Bloks eliminated the first two prototyping steps, leveraged large-assembly modeling and real-time collision detection to catch and fix errors before building prototypes, and deployed SolidWorks PDM to track versions and users. SolidWorks enabled shorter design cycles, reduced prototype development costs, the creation of more complex shapes and assemblies (e.g., the Lil’ Dump Truck and MEGA PLAY system), and a dramatic increase in new concept development while improving product design data management.
