Creating an automatic tire inflation system with SOLIDWORKS® Solutions

Aperia Technologies, founded by Josh Carter and Brandon Richardson, set out to solve chronic underinflation in commercial trucking by developing the Halo® automatic tire inflator that uses wheel rotation to maintain tire pressure. To accelerate development and improve hiring, Aperia adopted SolidWorks design and simulation solutions—including SOLIDWORKS Premium, SOLIDWORKS Simulation Premium, SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation, SOLIDWORKS Plastics Professional, and SOLIDWORKS Composer—to move from proof-of-concept toward commercial launch.

Using SolidWorks tools, Aperia reduced physical prototyping by half, improved design efficiency by 10–15%, and cut time-to-tooling by about 30% (saving roughly three to six months), while streamlining tooling iterations and improving recruiting. The SOLIDWORKS simulations for thermal, airflow, and dynamics effects let Aperia optimize the Halo design virtually, speeding development and enabling the company to bring the product to market more quickly.
