Creating a Better Fertility Diagnostic Device

The Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation (CAMLS) in Tampa partnered with CooperSurgical to develop the ABBI™ (Air Bubble Based Infuser), a single‑use device that combines sono‑HSG and SIS procedures to improve fertility diagnostics. CAMLS needed an integrated 3D development platform with robust design, simulation, mold‑filling, data management, and technical communication tools, so it turned to SolidWorks to support rapid, validated medical‑device development.

Using the SolidWorks suite—including SolidWorks Premium, Simulation Premium, Flow Simulation, Plastics, Enterprise PDM, and Composer—CAMLS designed, simulated, prototyped, and optimized the ABBI device (notably refining ergonomics and injection‑mold performance). SolidWorks enabled a 30% reduction in development time, accelerated time‑to‑market, improved product quality, and optimized mold gating and cycle parameters to contain sink marks, demonstrating measurable gains in speed and manufacturability.
