Case Study: BorgWarner Emissions/Thermal Systems achieves consolidated global engineering and fewer casting errors with SolidWorks

A SolidWorks Case Study

Preview of the Borgwarner Emissions/thermal Systems Case Study

Consolidating Three Engineering Organizations With SolidWorks

BorgWarner Emissions/Thermal Systems, formed from the acquisitions of Eaton, Kysor, and Schwitzer, faced the challenge of integrating three engineering organizations that used five different CAD systems and disparate data management tools across multiple countries. To standardize and streamline product development, the company evaluated major 3D CAD platforms and selected the SolidWorks 3D CAD system alongside the SmarTeam PDM solution.

SolidWorks and SmarTeam were deployed as a common worldwide design platform, consolidating design processes, shortening design cycles, and improving visualization and collaboration across sites. By requiring vendors to work from SolidWorks models and using SolidWorks tools (draft, mass, interference checking) in development, BorgWarner reduced casting errors and rework, cut time spent searching for data, and now runs SmarTeam at five sites to manage collaborative design, change control, and global signoffs.
