Connecting Mechanical and Electrical Design With Solidworks

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) faced challenges coordinating thermo-mechanical teams across Austin, Sunnyvale, Singapore, Shanghai and Bangalore and improving collaboration between mechanical and electrical engineers. To address this, AMD standardized on SolidWorks, deploying SOLIDWORKS Premium 3D design (including CircuitWorks) and SOLIDWORKS Enterprise PDM across 15 seats to manage design data and link ECAD/MCAD workflows.

Using SolidWorks’ Enterprise PDM, CircuitWorks and interference-checking tools, AMD synchronized five global sites, imported IDF board data to catch issues earlier, and eliminated many physical prototype boards—saving thousands of dollars annually. File transfers dropped from hours to minutes, indexed searches became dramatically faster, and collaboration between mechanical and electrical teams improved measurably.
