Configuring a family of automated packaging machines with SolidWorks software

Intertape Polymer Group (IPG), a manufacturer of specialized polyolefin and paper packaging products and automated carton-sealing machinery, faced competitive pressure to shorten design cycles and speed time-to-market for custom machines. To move from 2D drawing workflows to a 3D parametric approach, IPG evaluated several tools and chose SolidWorks software for its ease of use, large‑assembly and sheet‑metal capabilities, interference checking, and strong support.

Using SolidWorks, IPG implemented modular parametric models, configurations, mirror‑imaging and PhotoWorks rendering plus interference checking to rapidly generate and validate machine variants and improve design communication. SolidWorks enabled measurable gains: shortened development time (10%), lower development costs (35%), 50% fewer design errors, 75% less rework, and reported design‑cycle reductions up to 35%.
