SMC Corporation of America, the North American subsidiary of the global pneumatics leader SMC Corporation, needed to speed increasingly complex product development and better support custom “specials” and online configurable downloads. To move beyond AutoCAD 2D and automate design, SMC selected SolidWorks, deploying SolidWorks Professional, SolidWorks Premium, and SolidWorks Enterprise PDM for integrated 3D design, simulation, and product data management.

With SolidWorks, SMC reused design data to shorten development cycles and accelerate RFS (requests for specials) while holding standard‑product quality. SolidWorks’ simulation and PDM reduced scrap and rework, increased the number of custom‑configured products, and powered SMC’s ETECH e‑commerce site—enabling customers to download millions of configurable models and improving delivery efficiency.
