Cardiovascular Systems, Inc.- Customer Case Study

Cardiovascular Systems, Inc. (CSI) designs life‑saving devices to clear dangerous arterial blockages, and their challenge was to engineer the Diamondback 360® PAD System and disposable, diamond‑coated catheter probes that can sand away very hard plaque safely and reliably. To meet these exacting mechanical, safety and usability requirements, CSI designed and iterated the system using SolidWorks.

Using SolidWorks, CSI produced precise, manufacturable designs for the Diamondback 360 that enable clinicians to perform orbital atherectomy as a safer alternative to high‑pressure angioplasty—restoring circulation, reducing the need for amputations, and improving patient mobility. The outcome is measurable: more than 99% of particles generated during the procedure are smaller than a red blood cell, demonstrating the design accuracy and safety SolidWorks helped CSI achieve.
