Case Study: dddrop 3D Printers halves development time and cuts prototypes threefold with SOLIDWORKS

A SolidWorks Case Study

Preview of the dddrop 3D Printers Case Study

Building a 3D printer for engineers with integrated SOLIDWORKS® electronic design ecosystem

dddrop 3D Printers, a spin-off of CAD2M B.V., set out to design affordable, engineer‑focused 3D printers by directly leveraging customer feedback to define needed sizes, precision, and materials. To meet this challenge the company adopted the integrated SolidWorks electronic design ecosystem — combining mechanical design, electrical schematics, PCB design, simulation (structural and electronics cooling), PDM, rendering, and technical communication tools — to support concurrent, multidisciplinary development.

Using SolidWorks’ integrated tools, dddrop completed mechanical, electrical, and PCB design in parallel, validated thermal and structural performance, and managed data and documentation centrally. The SolidWorks ecosystem helped cut development cycles in half, reduce prototyping by a factor of three, enable concurrent development, and contributed to tripling printer sales in one year while launching the Leader TWIN in record time.
