A SolidWorks Case Study
Bowhead Corp, founded by Christian Bagg and Will Gill, set out to design specialized outdoor mobility equipment so disabled people could enjoy mountain trails and other rugged terrain. After Bagg’s injury, the team needed a way to turn a complex concept for an adaptive off-road bike into a workable product, despite limited design resources and highly complicated mechanical requirements. They used SOLIDWORKS for Entrepreneurs to develop the Bowhead Reach, an electric-powered three-wheeled bike with an articulating front end.
Using SOLIDWORKS, Bowhead Corp redrew the original concept, accelerated prototyping with 3D printing, and simplified manufacturing through multi-body part design. SolidWorks helped cut a full year from development, reduce prototyping cycles and costs, and support faster design changes as real-world customer needs emerged, including stronger suspension for jumping and forearm paddles for quadriplegic riders. SOLIDWORKS Composer and SOLIDWORKS Visualize also helped Bowhead Corp create documentation and product imagery to support launch and growth.
