Berg Transports Design Process to New Horizons With Solidworks Software and Tactonworks

Berg Propulsion AB, a century-old, $200M propeller manufacturer in Öckerö, Sweden, faced a complex, error-prone design challenge: hundreds of parts must be sized for each controllable pitch propeller system and no single person could master all constraints. To address this, Berg adopted SolidWorks’ SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD together with TactonWorks configurator to bring the configuration and design process into a single, automated workflow.

Using the integrated TactonWorks–SOLIDWORKS solution, Berg now auto-generates complete propeller shaft assemblies, parts, and drawings on the fly, storing everything in SOLIDWORKS Enterprise PDM. SolidWorks’ solution reduced the number of manual parameters from about 250 to 25, cut initial design cycles from weeks to real-time review with customers, eliminated many human errors, and improved data consistency and queryability—speeding delivery, simplifying onboarding, and improving overall design quality.
