A SolidWorks Case Study
Be Greater than Average, LLC, founded by Dr. Shelly Gruenig, runs robotics camps and helps students and parents create competitive middle- and high-school robotics teams. Early on her Rio Rancho Robo Runners (R4 Robotics) struggled in competitions and needed better design tools, repeatable development processes, and hands‑on training to build competitive robots and scale the program—so the team turned to SolidWorks and its user community for design software and support.
SolidWorks provided licenses, community mentorship, and training that allowed students to design, test, and iterate robots digitally before building them. By integrating SolidWorks into their workflow and peer‑led training, Be Greater than Average grew R4 from a four‑member startup to a 30–40 member program, won 10 New Mexico state championships, took first in the BEST Texas Regional in 2014 and 2018, ranked among the top four BEST teams nationally, and helped the company serve more than 1,000 students over six years—outcomes the organization attributes directly to SolidWorks.
