A SolidWorks Case Study
Automation Tooling Systems, Inc., a global leader in turnkey automated manufacturing and test systems for automotive, electronics, healthcare, and consumer products, needed to move from 2D to 3D CAD to boost productivity, improve quality, design more innovative products, and expand its market. After evaluating several options, ATS selected SolidWorks (including SolidWorks Standard, SolidWorks Simulation, SolidWorks Simulation Professional, and SolidWorks Motion) for its short learning curve, large-assembly handling, legacy-data compatibility, and strong 3D visualization and animation capabilities.
SolidWorks was implemented company-wide to standardize design practices and add integrated analysis and visualization tools; as a result ATS accelerated the design of large, moving assemblies, reduced drafting and structural errors, improved product quality and customer communications, and introduced the SuperTrak High-speed Pallet Transport System. Using SolidWorks animation, PhotoWorks, and eDrawings, ATS now produces and shares graphics and animations with colleagues and customers, and reports fewer production-floor structural problems thanks to SolidWorks Simulation.
