Automating the Creation of Controls Assembly Instructions With 3dvia Composer

Arens Controls Company, a provider of by-wire control systems and power management solutions for heavy-duty trucks and off-highway vehicles, struggled with a slow, photo-based process for creating assembly work instructions that delayed documentation, complicated engineering change handling, and hindered timely training. To address this, Arens turned to SolidWorks and its 3DVIA Composer technical communications software to automate instruction creation from CAD models.

SolidWorks implemented 3DVIA Composer to produce high-quality 2D/3D visuals and interactive animations directly from SOLIDWORKS models, allowing documentation to be developed concurrently with product design. The solution cut instruction development time by about 66%, pulled assembly documentation development up to a year earlier, minimized reliance on digital photography, and sped engineering-change response—on the T79XXX shifter project, instructions were finished before the first parts arrived.
