Automating Mill Relining System Development With Solidworks Solutions

Russell Mineral Equipment (RME), the world’s leading maker of mill relining systems for the hard rock mining industry, needed to automate and accelerate the design and manufacture of large, custom assemblies (up to 6,000 parts) to shorten turnaround times and increase throughput. RME standardized on SolidWorks solutions—including SolidWorks design, Simulation, Enterprise PDM, Electrical, Composer—and added DriveWorks design automation to move from slow 2D processes to a fully automated 3D workflow.

By implementing SolidWorks and DriveWorks, RME automated configuration, design validation, and release workflows so proposal drawings that once took hours now generate in 15 minutes, proposals that took a week now take a day, and final machine design time dropped from three months to seven days. The SolidWorks-based system reduced assembly errors through Simulation FEA, consolidated over two million files in EPDM, and enabled a fourfold increase in production without adding headcount.
