Advancing Speed and Flexibility in Industrial Design With Solidworks Industrial Designer

Carl Design AB, a leading Scandinavian industrial design firm led by Carl Öjerstam, needed to accelerate concept development and improve compatibility between freeform surface models and production-ready solid CAD data. To address this challenge they turned to SolidWorks, adopting SOLIDWORKS Industrial Designer to better integrate subD/freeform modeling with their existing SOLIDWORKS mechanical design workflow.

By joining the SOLIDWORKS Industrial Designer Lighthouse Program and adding SOLIDWORKS Industrial Designer to its toolset, Carl Design was able to push-and-pull shapes like digital clay and move seamlessly between freeform and parametric modeling. Using SolidWorks, the firm cut surfacing change time from about four hours to 30–60 minutes, gained greater design freedom and easier surface-to-solid integration, and produced a redesigned EV charger handle with improved aesthetics, manufacturability and a watertight design.
