Adlens – Striving for Success with SOLIDWORKS

Adlens, a global corrective-vision company that grew from a philanthropic initiative, set out to commercialize the Adlens Focuss—marketed as the world’s first prescription adjustable-focus eyewear—but faced significant engineering and aesthetic challenges: integrating Variable Power Optics into a fashionable rectangular frame and ensuring reliable manufacturability. To address optics, materials and molding complexity, Adlens used SolidWorks 3D CAD tools and SolidWorks Plastics for simulation.

Using SolidWorks, the Adlens team designed and virtually bench-tested all component parts (including the flexible lens module, jigs, fixtures and nests), simulated real-world material behavior and validated injection-molding flow with SolidWorks Plastics. The result was a successful conversion of the optical membrane into an extended rectangular shape, a visually striking, market-ready Adlens Focuss design and a validated production approach that helped bring the adjustable-focus eyewear to market.
