A SolidWorks Case Study
Center for Advanced Design (CAD), a Minneapolis-area product development consultancy, needed to accelerate industrial design concept development by eliminating repetitive tasks, improving flexibility for late changes, and streamlining communication with clients and partners. They adopted SOLIDWORKS Industrial Designer software from SolidWorks to bridge the gap between industrial surfacing and SOLIDWORKS mechanical design.
Using SolidWorks’ SOLIDWORKS Industrial Designer, CAD integrated sketching, Sub-D push‑pull modeling, advanced surfacing, photorealistic rendering and online sharing (SWYM) so surfaces could be thickened into solid models without time‑consuming rework. The change cut industrial design time by 60%, enabled one person to do the work that previously required three, sped handling of design changes, and improved customer communication—significantly increasing concept throughput and reducing cost.
