Case Study: California Public Utilities Commission achieves nearly total virtualization with SolidFire

A SolidFire Case Study

Preview of the California Public Utilities Commission Case Study

We broke the 80% barrier to reach nearly total virtualization

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) needed to modernize its IT environment after virtualizing about 80% of workloads, but legacy storage performance limits and rising costs blocked the final push to nearly full virtualization. CPUC turned to SolidFire all-flash storage to support its most demanding VMware and Microsoft SQL workloads while reducing its storage footprint and improving efficiency.

SolidFire implemented two four-node SF2405 clusters with scale-out architecture, high availability, and VMware integration, enabling CPUC to virtualize the last 20% of workloads and move closer to 100% virtualization. The results included a footprint reduction from 21U to 4U and performance gains of 25% to 30%, while also helping lower SQL licensing costs and eliminate prior VDI and storage bottlenecks.
