Case Study: MJC Engineering and Technology achieves design of the world’s largest CNC metal spinning machine with Solid Edge

A Solid Edge Case Study

Preview of the MJC Engineering and Technology Case Study

World’s largest CNC metal spinning machine designed in Solid Edge

MJC Engineering and Technology faced a challenge no other supplier would take on: design and build the world’s largest CNC metal spinning machine, the 55‑ton, 80‑foot OSC 24300, capable of spinning steel tubes up to 24" diameter, 1.5" wall thickness and 40 feet long for FIBA Technologies. To meet these daunting requirements, MJC used Solid Edge to model every component as a digital assembly and to communicate the concept to the customer.

Using Solid Edge, MJC rapidly produced full 3D assemblies and about 20 detailed images that convinced FIBA the small shop could deliver, while the lead designer was able to be productive with production drawings within three weeks. The Solid Edge workflow cut concept‑drawing time from days to hours (about 2 days to 2 hours), reduced repetitive keystrokes by roughly 30%, paid for itself on the first design, and enabled the successful delivery of the OSC 24300 with measurable improvements in design speed and stakeholder confidence.
