With Solid Edge and Femap, dental implant manufacturer opens up new markets

Biotec, an Italian dental implant manufacturer that rebranded to launch its own "btk" implant line, faced the challenge of moving from subcontracting to full-product development: designing very small, multifunctional implants, working concurrently with demanding physicians, and accelerating time-to-market while meeting lengthy international certification requirements. To address this, Biotec adopted PLM and CAD tools from Siemens Digital Industries Software—deploying Solid Edge (and Femap) to support its advanced design needs.

Using Solid Edge, Biotec implemented an intuitive, parametric CAD solution that enabled faster revisions, better data reuse and concurrent design with medical specialists. Solid Edge helped accelerate product development, support the launch of the btk brand and open new markets; as a result Biotec doubled headcount over three years and expanded sales across Southern Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and Eastern Europe. Solid Edge is credited with giving the company the speed and flexibility needed to scale and compete internationally.
