Hutton Technologies, a social enterprise developing low-cost, low‑maintenance solutions for smallholder farmers, faced the challenge of designing an easy-to-repair irrigation pump with extremely limited resources. To solve this, the team used Solid Edge software on a monthly subscription to create and refine 3D designs, optimize parts for injection molding, and move the project from prototype to production.

Using Solid Edge, Hutton Technologies refined the flexipump design, communicated efficiently with manufacturers, and prepared parts for injection molding, enabling a cost‑effective commercial launch. The Solid Edge–enabled solution produced a lightweight (2.5 kg) pump that is intuitive to operate, repairable without tools, and designed mainly by one person; it cut typical irrigation time by about 80% and simplified spare-part replacement.
