A Solid Edge Case Study
Lid Jarnindustri, a Norwegian manufacturer of agricultural and outdoor equipment, faced the challenge of improving product quality and durability while competing against low‑cost suppliers and controlling costs in a high‑price manufacturing environment. To meet this challenge the company adopted Solid Edge from Siemens Digital Industries Software as its core CAD/PLM tool to move from "gut engineering" to digitally driven design and development.
Using Solid Edge, Lid Jarnindustri implemented CAD, simulation and revision‑management workflows (part of the Velocity Series) that let engineers simulate durability and function, reuse and alter existing parts, and send sheet metal directly to robot folding and laser cutting. The solution reduced reliance on costly physical testing, sped up projects, improved shop communication, and enabled rapid response to customer feedback — today nearly all 18 product models are built in Solid Edge and the company maintains over 80,000 Solid Edge files, outcomes the vendor helped deliver that have kept Lid Jarnindustri competitive and viable.
