Case Study: Wkidea achieves three-hour design-to-product turnaround and product-line expansion with Solid Edge

Using Solid Edge and CAM Express, craftsman singlehandedly runs the entire process from 3D design through to CNC machining

Wkidea, a Taiwan-based maker of wooden cell phone cases and accessories, faced quality and yield problems from outsourced production and decided to bring manufacturing in-house. On the recommendation of CADEX Technology, Wkidea adopted an integrated CAD/CAM solution using Solid Edge and CAM Express to control design-through-manufacturing and capture machining best practices.

Using Solid Edge (with CAM Express) plus a CNC machine and custom macros, Wkidea cut order-to-product time to about three hours, expanded its product line from one to five items, sold over 2,000 cases, and now holds roughly 25–35% of Taiwan’s wooden phone-case market. The Solid Edge-enabled workflow also made design changes fast and precise—improving handling of different woods and magnet fittings—raising productivity and lowering production costs.
