UK’s Leading University needed a mainstream, easy-to-learn engineering design solution to give its ~1,000 engineering students real-world CAD experience as part of their common first two years and industrial-placement preparation. The university deployed Solid Edge software (supplied and supported by Majenta PLM) to introduce students to design-and-make projects and core engineering workflows.

Solid Edge was provided as an individual copy for each student and embedded into first-year projects, with students using tools like Engineering Reference to create components such as gears. The solution strengthened practical skills, supported high-profile student successes (Team Bath Racing, Formula Student and human-powered aircraft/submarine projects), and underpinned the university’s strong outcomes — with 1,000 students using Solid Edge and the university ranked third in The Times guide while Mechanical Engineering placed first.
