Weir Valves & Controls UK, a subsidiary of The Weir Group PLC serving power generation, oil & gas and general industrial sectors, struggled with fragmented engineering data and heavy administrative overhead. Engineers were spending as much as 80% of their time in SAP on clerical tasks, 5–10% of BOMs in SAP were estimated incorrect, files were stored locally and sign-off processes were not robust. To tackle these issues the company turned to Solid Edge and Teamcenter (Siemens Digital Industries Software) to consolidate CAD and PLM data.

Solid Edge, deployed alongside Teamcenter, created a single synchronized BOM, shared access to CAD data and streamlined electronic sign-off processes. The single data source removed duplicate components and inconsistent file management, cut nonvalue-added paperwork for engineers, and delivered significant time and cost savings across design, purchasing and production control. Solid Edge’s integration with SAP also provided stronger data ownership and faster, more accurate change management.
