Marine firm standardizes on Teamcenter and Solid Edge to keep up with customer demand

IHC Merwede, a global marine engineering and shipbuilding firm, faced fragmented PLM operations across nine autonomous business units running multiple versions of Teamcenter Express, which made support, maintenance and capacity planning difficult. The vendor Solid Edge (Siemens Digital Industries Software) was engaged to standardize on current Teamcenter and deploy the latest Solid Edge clients to centralize PDM processes and improve supportability.

Solid Edge implemented a step‑by‑step migration plan with Siemens Digital Industries Software services: test conversions, staged upgrades through intermediate versions, a weekend database import and workstation updates, plus onsite support and a Large Account Engineers (LAE) agreement for ongoing assistance. The migration moved nine units to a single Teamcenter version with conversion completed within a day and no operational downtime, enabling immediate business resumption, streamlined IT support, aligned PDM growth with demand and measurable digital process improvements. Solid Edge continues to provide support capacity and integration with IHC Merwede’s central IT help desk.
