Planet Dryers, a UK specialist in customized drying, cooling, roasting and cutting machines for the food industry (with units up to 40 meters), needed to reuse legacy design data, illustrate very large assemblies, produce accurate sheet‑metal patterns and share CAD with suppliers and customers. To address these challenges the company implemented Solid Edge from Siemens Digital Industries Software, supported by partner OnePLM, to move to 3D design and streamline its engineering process.

Using Solid Edge’s synchronous technology and sheet‑metal tools, Planet Dryers quickly reworked old 2D data, made fast design changes, produced photorealistic renderings and generated flat patterns for fabrication. The result was a 15% reduction in design time (about six business days per machine), 15% savings on internal design costs, easier manipulation of large assemblies, faster customization and better supplier/customer communication — contributing to improved competitiveness, standardization and company growth (revenue +20% and headcount doubled).
