A Solid Edge Case Study
Edunburgh Elevator, a Shanghai-based maker of elevators, escalators and parking equipment, struggled with low R&D efficiency, high costs and quality issues, frequent disruptive design changes that required physical prototypes, poor collaboration across design teams, and long quoting cycles. To modernize its process the company adopted Solid Edge (alongside Simcenter Femap with Nastran) from Siemens Digital Industries Software to move from 2D to 3D design, enable simulation, and support an automated product configurator.
Using Solid Edge for 3D modeling and Simcenter Femap with Nastran for virtual simulation—plus a Solid Edge–driven configurator integrated with PLM/ERP built with partner Shark Networking—Edunburgh cut its new-product R&D cycle from 1 year to about 10 months, reduced costs and material waste by 18%, and shortened quoting time from roughly two weeks to 1–2 hours. Solid Edge’s synchronous technology and the simulation-driven workflow eliminated many physical prototypes, improved collaboration and decision-making, and sharpened the company’s competitive edge.
