Case Study: Kraftblock achieves rapid development of sustainable high-temperature heat storage systems with Solid Edge

A Solid Edge Case Study

Preview of the Kraftblock Case Study

Driving Sustainability with Storage-Based Energy Systems

Kraftblock, a German start‑up founded by Dr. Martin Schichtel and Susanne König, develops transportable, storage‑based energy systems to capture excess energy from manufacturing, solar and wind sources. Facing the challenge of quickly prototyping and validating a heat‑storage unit built from recycled pellets that must absorb extreme temperatures (up to 1,300 °C), Kraftblock used a Solid Edge Premium license provided through the Solid Edge Startup Program to accelerate design and simulation.

Using Solid Edge (with onboarding support from Siemens partner PBU CAD‑Systeme GmbH), Kraftblock applied the CAD and simulation tools to rapidly iterate and validate its storage units. The result was tested, portable heat‑storage modules—each capable of covering the annual heat consumption of about two single‑family homes and with pellets rated to absorb up to 1,300 °C—helping the company grow into a six‑year‑old, award‑winning business that now also offers consulting on capturing and storing excess energy.
