A Solid Edge Case Study
Aztech Engineering (UK), a specialist in custom high‑precision machinery and tooling for automotive, aerospace and commercial manufacturing, faced increasing design complexity and the need to convert large CATIA CAD assemblies into usable data without adopting CATIA itself. To avoid the cost and training burden of a new enterprise system, Aztech turned to Solid Edge, using Solid Edge 3D CAD and the Solid Edge CATIA V5 translator to handle multi‑format CAD imports.
Using Solid Edge’s CATIA V5 translator and Solid Edge 3D CAD, Aztech imported 677 CATIA files over five months (about 120 files per month) and achieved a 99% translation success rate — roughly one failed import per month, usually due to issues in the source file — which sped tooling design, enabled photorealistic customer reviews and improved collaboration with OEMs. Solid Edge also reduced ramp‑up time for engineers and boosted day‑to‑day productivity, helping Aztech deliver complex tooling faster and with consistent quality.
