SolarEdge Floating PV System Filters Smart Energy into Savings for Wastewater Plant

Lake County Special Districts, a wastewater treatment facility in California, faced rising electricity rates and a lack of adequate land or rooftop space for a traditional solar installation. To address this, they partnered with vendor SolarEdge Technologies to find a solution that could offset their significant power consumption.

SolarEdge provided its power optimizers and inverters as part of a floating solar system installed on a wastewater pond by North Coast Solar. The DC-optimized solution from SolarEdge overcame space constraints and generated 389,580 kWh in its first year, exceeding energy production predictions. This resulted in approximately $90,000 in annual electricity savings, positive cash flow, a reduction of 131 tons of CO2, and allowed funds to be redirected to other projects.
