KGNU builds a 120 kWh community resilience hub with Sol-Ark

KGNU Community Radio, serving Boulder, Colorado, faced the challenge of ensuring uninterrupted broadcasting to provide critical emergency alerts during disasters like floods and wildfires, which often cause power outages. To build a resilient community hub, they partnered with vendor Sol-Ark to implement a hybrid inverter and battery storage system.

The solution implemented by Sol-Ark involved two 60K-3P-480V hybrid inverters, 30 kW of rooftop solar, and 120 kWh of battery storage, all integrated with a standby generator. This system provides fast, seamless power transitions to keep sensitive broadcast equipment online. The results include reliable backup power, greater energy resilience, and surplus solar production, ensuring KGNU can remain operational to serve the community during emergencies.
