A Software Sustainability Institute Case Study
The UCL Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) required improvements to its MyVric software to help other hospitals adopt and develop it for managing clinical trials. Their challenge was that the existing software and infrastructure were often inadequate for properly integrating information systems within the clinical trial process. The Software Sustainability Institute was engaged to perform a sustainability assessment.
The Software Sustainability Institute analyzed the software and provided a comprehensive report with practical recommendations to improve documentation, web presence, and code maintainability. As a result, the VRIC project fulfilled over half of the recommendations, which has made the software far easier for other hospitals to understand, develop, and extend. The institute's work has generated reported interest from other schools of medicine and neurosurgery.
