Boston Public Schools needed a better way for principals and school managers to evaluate teachers while moving through classrooms, without carrying bulky laptops or stacks of paper. To support its educator performance process, the district worked with Software Merchant Inc on a mobile solution for the Educator Development & Feedback System (EDFS).

Software Merchant Inc developed an iPad-based, offline-capable application that let evaluators log in, select a teacher, and enter observation notes directly during class visits. Feedback was then synced to a central SQL Lite database when internet was available, creating a paperless workflow that saved time and paper, improved data storage and access, and allowed teachers to review feedback online for ongoing development.
