Minnesota Housing distributes $70M in housing assistance with Software for Good

The state of Minnesota, through its agency Minnesota Housing, faced the urgent challenge of distributing over $100 million in emergency housing assistance to residents struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic. They partnered with vendor Software for Good to rapidly build a centralized application portal, as no such system existed to manage the high volume of requests for rent, mortgage, and utility relief.

Software for Good built a full-stack web application that streamlined the application and review process for both residents and administrators across 44 agencies. This solution successfully distributed over $70 million in funds, processing 70,553 assistance requests from 63,164 applicants, with over half of the aid going to Black, Indigenous, and people of color.
