A Software AG Case Study
US Foods, one of America’s largest food distributors with roughly $20 billion in revenue and more than 250,000 customers, had grown through hundreds of acquisitions and ended up with fragmented IT and 63 autonomous branches. The result was inconsistent data, manual processes, inaccurate pricing and limited visibility across divisions, which hindered operational control and customer service.
Working with Software AG, US Foods implemented a webMethods BPM solution to automate and standardize processes—notably the Credit Debit Memo Request (CDMR) approval flow—integrating legacy systems (Tandem mainframe, Oracle PeopleSoft, security apps) and providing real-time metrics and SLA monitoring. Deployed in three months, the standardized, reusable framework improved process visibility and productivity, is expected to save at least $1 million in year one, and helped the company move closer to its goal of being easier to do business with.
